HDR Brachytherapy

Because University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center (UMGCCC) doctors have many treatment options available for prostate cancer, they can tailor their treatment approach to each individual’s situation. 

In this video, Jason Molitoris, MD, explains brachytherapy for prostate cancer, comparing implanted radioactive seeds for tumors within the prostate to HDR (high dose rate) brachytherapy for cancers growing beyond the prostate.

He also discusses deep tissue hyperthermia, a unique treatment offered by University of Maryland radiation oncologists. Hyperthermia, which uses gentle heat, can increase the effectiveness of HDR brachytherapy. This approach may improve outcomes for patients whose prostate cancer has returned.
