UMMC Goes Green
Sustainability at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) touches all areas of operations within the hospital, including green buildings, waste management, leaner energy solutions, green commuting, sustainable foods, smart purchasing, and safer chemicals. UMMC has committed itself to promoting healthy patients and communities locally and globally by safeguarding the environment.
UMMC has been awarded LEED Gold certification for its Shock Trauma Critical Care Tower, a 140,000-square-foot patient care building that was completed in late 2013. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification is an internationally recognized measurement of a building’s adherence to sustainable, or "green," principles.
