One of our registered dietitians hosts our free virtual support group each month.

Specifically designed for our postoperative patients, our group is a safe place to share feelings, and find motivation and support as you start building a new life.

Studies show that support groups can increase the chances of short- and long-term weight loss after bariatric surgery. We encourage you to bring along people who are part of your support system.

Virtual Support group meetings include:

  • A presentation by our registered dietitian followed by a discussion
  • A weight loss professional question-and-answer segment (not every meeting)
  • Time for questions from patients at the beginning of their journey
  • Social interaction

Benefits of Our Virtual Support Group

After their weight loss surgery, our patients are learning a new way of life and creating a new relationship with food. Our support group focuses on:

  • Developing new eating and drinking behavior
  • Managing nutritional and physical health, as well as emotional, mental, psychological and spiritual well-being
  • Learning more about obesity as a disease and weight loss
  • Discussing personal or professional issues that arise after bariatric surgery

Facebook Group

The UMMC Bariatric Surgery Postoperative Community is for our post-operative patients to connect with others who have had weight loss surgery. It is a closed group, available by invitation only to our postoperative patients. It provides an intimate and supportive environment for sharing information and experiences.
