Vascular Surgery Nurse Practitioner
I have been a nurse practitioner with the University of Maryland Center for Aortic Disease since 2014.
What I love most about my job is working with a team that shares my commitment for patient care both long before and after complex aortic surgical treatment.
I am awed at the difficult surgeries our expert team provides that help cure aortic disease patients who might otherwise have no hope of recovery.
While our surgeons and operating room staff invest their undivided attention to heal one patient, our team of nurses, doctors, nurse practitioners, respiratory, physical and occupational therapists, dieticians, and assistants continue the work to return our patients back to their lives and families.
I also love vascular surgery because it can offer a concrete cure as well as the benefit of creating lasting relationships with patients. In my role, I really get to know my patients and families when we are preparing for their surgery, managing their medical conditions and pain after surgery, and continuing evaluation with their long-term follow up. I love seeing patients return year after year and sharing in the joys of their normal lives. They are present for the birth of great grandchildren, marriages, graduations, and other family milestones because of our work at the UM Center for Aortic Disease.
Acute aortic disease is life threatening and cannot be put on hold even during a pandemic so the expansion of telemedicine options has not only kept our patients safe but also improved the convenience of continued aortic care. Many of our patients live hours away and either do not drive or have significant anxiety driving into Baltimore. Now, routine follow up care is safe and effective from the convenience of home. I hope seeing a familiar face or hearing a familiar voice brings comfort and I am glad that an option for telemedicine is here to stay!
