Heart Disease in Women
Women often experience heart disease differently than men.
The symptoms of heart disease in women are difficult to recognize, both for women and for their health care providers.
This leads to women with heart conditions remaining undiagnosed or misdiagnosed, but the Women's Heart Health Program at the University of Maryland Medical Center is looking to change that.
Our all female team of physician experts works closely with patients to determine whether or not you have heart disease, or if you have other health issues that may mimic heart disease.
Women’s Heart Program: Services We Provide
Our program offers thorough assessments to address women's heart health needs. This includes:
- Preventive strategies (Learn more about our Center for Preventive Cardiology).

Women’s Heart Health: When to Seek Care
Women should seek medical help if they have:
- Decreased exercise tolerance
- Breathlessness with exertion
- Increasing fatigue
- Decreased stamina for no clear reason
If you have these symptoms, it is important to determine your heart risk and seek assessment by a qualified cardiac provider. Learn more about cardiac diagnosis.
