Patient Resources
The University of Maryland movement disorders team educates our patients to be good self-managers, and we keep our patients informed on the most up-to-date treatments for their disease.
Within Our Reach Symposium
Within Our Reach is our unique patient educational program that recognizes the importance of engaging patients, care partners and family members in an active process to learn the skills necessary to manage Parkinson’s disease.
Within Our Reach is an annual event hosted by the University of Maryland Movement Disorders Clinical Center. This one-day symposium features informative seminars, networking sessions, access to experts and interactive webinars.
Multiple System Atrophy and Other Parkinsonian Disorders Symposium
This one-day symposium, held annually in April, features informative seminars and educational resources to patients and care partners.
In 2016, Carol Shaffer Smith established the Stephen K. Myers Lectureship here at the University of Maryland after the loss of her son to multiple system atrophy (MSA). Her goal was to provide information to patients and care partners on managing the evolving daily challenges of living with a progressive neurodegenerative disorder.
The annual Myers symposium enables the University of Maryland Movement Disorders Clinical Center to invite expert physicians in the field of parkinsonian disorders including MSA, Lewy body dementia, corticobasal degeneration and progressive supranuclear palsy to present the latest information on treatment and scientific discoveries to patients, care partners and clinicians.
