These clinical trials are studies designed to find new and better ways to treat patients with neuropathy. The physicians at the Maryland Peripheral Neuropathy Center are currently conducting the clinical trials listed below.

Neuromotor Rehabilitation Study

Investigators at the UM School of Physical Rehabilitation are studying the differences in reach to grasp balance response in both people with peripheral neuropathy and healthy older adults.

This study involves six training sessions over a three-week period, and trial participants will be asked to respond naturally to a series of unpredictable balance challenges.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Are you between the ages of 45-88 (but preferably over 60)?
• Are you able to walk without a cane?
• Do you have any significant musculoskeletal or neurological impairments that limit daily activities?
• Do you have any visual loss (not including wearing  glasses)?
• Do you have any complaints of dizziness or known vestibular or balance disorders?
• Do you have distal symmetrical peripheral neuropathy?
• Do you have significant motor impairment due to peripheral neuropathy?
• Do you have any foot ulcers or other conditions that may affect walking performance or balance?

Neuromuscular Database

Neuromuscular disorders, such as neuropathy, motor neuron disease and myopathy are common neurologic disorders that cause significant morbidity in the population. Establishing a database consisting of clinical information such as patient reported symptoms and clinician findings on physical exams facilitates further understanding of neuromuscular disorders.
