Facial Implants
What is chin, cheek, or jaw reshaping?
Cosmetic plastic surgery to change the shape of the chin, check, or jaw is called a facial implant. This procedure is typically done to enhance certain facial features, or to bring a certain aspect of the face into proportion with the rest.
For the reshaping of the chin, check, or jaw, the surgeon inserts an implant into the area to redefine its appearance.
Possible complications associated with facial implants:
- Infection - As with any operation an infection can occur. If this happens, the patient is given antibiotics to clear up the infection. If the infection does not dissipate then the implant may have to be temporarily removed and replaced at a later time.
- Shifting - A facial implant could move slightly out of alignment and a second operation might be necessary to reposition it in its proper place.
