The School Mental Health Program (SMHP) is committed to supporting your efforts to help your child stay safe and develop their full potential.
Helpful Guidelines
- Be prepared, talk with your therapist about ways to prevent crises and support your family. It helps to plan ahead
- Keep in touch, schedule routine mental health treatment appointments, and call ahead if you need to reschedule
- Keep track, if your child is taking medication, keep track of when you need a refill
- Take note, write down your concerns, including steps you have taken to assist your child
- Be ready to call for help, write down your concerns, including steps you have taken to assist your child.
- Take action,
- Stay calm
- Reduce noise and stressors (for example, turn off the TV and loud music)
- Make sure all children in your care are safe
- Use positive reinforcement
- Get help if needed
