Psychiatric Rehabilitation
Harbor City Unlimited, the University of Maryland Medical Center's psychiatric rehabilitation location, is dedicated to providing a supportive setting to help individuals with serious mental illness learn to effectively manage their illness and recover their lives.
Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP)
On-Site Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program
PRP services are provided through individual counseling and group activities. Recovery groups focus on helping members learn essential life skills for independent living and fulfilling meaningful life roles.
Members choose groups based on their individual goals, including but not limited to:
- Wellness management
- Recreation and leisure
- Community living skills
- Health and nutrition
- Social skills
- Co-occurring disorders
- Computer skills
GED classes are offered onsite and in partnership with Baltimore City Community College.
Breakfast and lunch are available.
Off-Site Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program
Rehabilitation counselors provide community outreach services to assist members living in the larger community. Counselors work with members to set and help meet their recovery goals in the following areas:
- Connecting with community resources
- Social involvement
- Money management
- Managing health concerns
- Household management
Supported Employment
Evidence-based practices are utilized in assisting members to achieve their employment goals. These practices include helping members find and keep competitive employment in their communities.
Vocational Specialists assist with identifying, applying, and being successful in a job that interests the member. On-site support for job growth is also provided as needed.
We collaborate with the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) in helping members reach their vocational goals.
Residential Rehabilitation Program (RRP)
RRP is provided in two different levels of supervised housing; Intensive and General. Both programs meet the needs of the person's individualized goals and provides a home-like setting within the community in order to achieve these goals.
Assistance and support offered encompasses all independent living skills necessary to be successful, such as:
- Medication monitoring and education
- Social skills building
- Money management and budgeting
- Coping skill building
- Anger management skill building
- Somatic wellness management and counseling
- Coordination of care with the members treatment teams
Young Adult Program
Harbor City offers specialized residential and on-site programs for young adults, ages 18-26, that focus on:
- Social skills
- Forming meaningful relationships
- Pursuing education
- Career development
