Sepsis Research
Regulation of cytokines:
The laboratories of Dr. Hasday, Singh, and Cross collaborate closely to study the cytokine basis of sepsis. Drs. Hasday and Singh have studied the biochemical mechanisms of gene regulation, including transcriptional and posttranscriptional regulation. They have also identified the mechanisms through which febrile-range hyperthermia regulates several cytokine genes.
They also have ongoing collaborations with Dr. Dhan Kalvakolanu (Microbiology and Immunology; Cancer Center) to study such mechanisms. They also collaborate with Dr. Cross to study the dynamic cytokine expression cascade in sepsis.
The contribution of caspase activation:
Dr. Cross, along with Dr. Hasday has studied the role of caspase activation and its role in activation IL-1beta and IL-18 in sepsis. This work will identify new therapeutic targets in this disease.
