University of Maryland Medical Center interventional pulmonologists play a key role on several teams throughout the hospital, working closely with physicians from various disciplines to ensure each patient receives a treatment plan customized for their unique condition.

Our interventional pulmonologists – Faria Nasim, MD, Van K. Holden, MD, Edward M. Pickering, MD and Ashutosh Sachdeva, MD – help with diagnosing and treating complex airway diseases, using advanced treatments when standard therapies aren't enough.

They also lead clinical research trials, which patients may have the opportunity to participate in.

Diseases our team help to diagnose and treat include:

Bronchoscopic Lung Volume Reduction

Sometimes patients are required to have lung volume reduction procedures to help with emphysema. Those patients are seen by both thoracic surgeons and interventional pulmonologists to discuss tailored care plans.

Our team specializes in bronchoscopic lung volume reduction (BLVR), a new minimally invasive option for treating emphysema, a form of COPD.
