The R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center was re-verified as the Primary Adult Resource Center (PARC) for both trauma and neurotrauma in Maryland through 2023 by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS).

Shock Trauma is the only PARC-designated facility for trauma and neurotrauma in the country. We are proud that STC provides the highest level of Trauma care available.

Trauma Centers are categorized into four levels – Level I, Level II, Level III and PARC – with the differences determined by the amount of physician availability and dedicated resources. To be PARC designated, a center has to meet 12 criteria, a standard only our Shock Trauma Center meets in the US.
