Observation Programs at Shock Trauma

We enjoy providing our EMS observers with a stellar experience here at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. We offer four hour observation sessions to providers in current possession of EMT-B or higher certification. To schedule observation times contact STCEMS@umm.edu or call 410-328-8844.

Do you ever wonder what happens after your patient arrives at the Shock Trauma Center?

The Shock Trauma Center is dedicated to the education of the EMS clinicians of our state. Our office offers clinical observation experiences in the Trauma Resuscitation Unit (TRU), Neurotrauma Critical Care Unit and the Multiple Trauma Critical Care Unit. These programs are designed for observational purposes only and restricted to MD EMS Clinicians.

  • Rotations in the TRU are available Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 3pm to 11pm or 11pm to 7am.
  • Rotation in the Multiple Trauma and Neurotrauma Units are available Wednesday and Friday, 3pm to 11pm.

EMS Advanced Airway Lab Course

The Emergency Medical Serves Advanced Airway Lab is a course for licensed Maryland Advanced Life support Emergency Medical Services professionals. This hands-on program is designed to reinforce the fundamentals of airway management, as well as provide exposure to advance airway management concepts, techniques and skills.

Tours

Tours are on a case-by-case basis due to availability of hosts as well as activities occurring in the trauma center. Tours through this office are geared towards EMS providers and classes of EMS providers.

Are you teaching an EMS certification class? Do you lead a group in your fire department? Would your students or department be interested in learning more about the Maryland EMS System and the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center?

Group tours for Maryland EMS organizations and classes may be arranged through the EMS Office based on availability. Tours should be booked at least one month in advance and are done in coordination with other events and programs of the EMS Office. Contact the EMS Office for more information at STCEMS@umm.edu.

Tours are limited to a total of 10 participants per tour guide. Larger groups are encouraged to watch our virtual tour video.

Evening Educational Programs at Shock Trauma

**All presentations will begin at 7pm in the Shock Trauma Auditorium.

These presentations at the Shock Trauma Center are open to all Maryland EMS clinicians as well as nurses. The lectures are in format to allow the clinicians to draw direct correlation between knowledge and application as it relates to trauma patients. We webcast these presentations to multiple remote sites currently including Calvert County ALS, Carroll County Training Center, Cecilton Volunteer Fire Company, Civista Hospital, UM Shore Medical Center, Frederick County DFRS Training Center, Kent County EMS, Meritus Hospital, UM Capital Regional Hospital, TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Medical Center, MedStar St. Mary's Hospital, Suburban Hospital, and UMPC Western Maryland. Please check with remote sites for individual participation. (MIEMSS CEUs offered).

State EMS Conferences

Come experience EMS Conferences around the state. Great times and great education.
