Shock Trauma Center Tour Guidelines
Purpose
- To identify groups that may tour the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center
- To state the process for managing tour requests; and
- To state the parameter that tour guides should follow when giving tours.

Policy
All requests from individuals and groups wishing to visit the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center should follow the procedures listed below. Shock Trauma Center staff who personally will be scheduling and giving tours to a small group must contact the central tour coordinator to ensure that the tour is listed on the master calendar and tour guidelines are followed.
Procedure
Who May Tour the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center
Individuals must be at least 16 years of age to tour the Shock Trauma Center. For individuals less than 16 years of age, presentations will be made to the communities at large. Presentations may include a virtual tour of the Shock Trauma Center and resources. This also applies to high school and college students who do not have an appropriate reason to tour the Center. (Example: appropriate reason would be enrolled in allied-health courses, students pursuing a career in the medical profession).
Size of Group Touring The R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center
Tours will be limited to 10 or less (per tour guide) in respect for the privacy of our patients and to avoid disruption of patient care.
When Tours Are Offered
Tours should be conducted Monday through Friday during regular business hours, 10 am – 4 pm. Tours conducted outside regular hours are considered an exception and discretion should be used when scheduling them. Given the heavy volume of patient activity, tours will be limited during the months of June, July and August.

How All Other Tours Should Be Requested
Download and complete a tour request form. Tour requests must be submitted at least one month in advance and should be submitted to:
