Atrioventricular Septal Defect (AV Canal)
An AV Canal diagnosis typically consists of two different abnormalities occurring at the same time. The first is called an Atrioventricular Septal Defect (AVSD) – a relatively common congenital heart defect. It is also called atrioventricular (AV) canal or an endocardial cushion defect.
In an AVSD, the mitral and tricuspid valves are combined into one common AV valve, reducing blood flow from the heart.
