Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA)
Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA) occurs when the aorta and the pulmonary artery are transposed. In TGA, oxygen poor blood goes to the body via the aorta and causes damage to the organs.
TGA may be caused by a genetic or chromosomal condition. Once TGA is diagnosed, our fetal heart specialists can test for these conditions with an amniocentesis or a chorionic villus sampling (CVS), which tests part of the placenta tissue. We also offer genetic counseling during your pregnancy.
