Myomectomy Procedures
Uterine fibroids can be painful and can cause excessive bleeding, constipation and other issues. In this unique visual explanation, May H. Blanchard, MD, walks us through the different types of myomectomy procedures that allow University of Maryland doctors to remove fibroids without damaging the uterus.
The approaches for treating fibroids depending on their size and location:
- In a hysteroscopy, a thin, flexible tube-like tool is inserted through the uterus and used to shave off fibroids.
- In a laparoscopy, an incision smaller than the diameter of a dime is made in the abdomen or pelvis using the aid of a camera to remove fibroids.
