Who We Are

At the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC), we ask patients and their families to actively take part in their care.

To help us support patients and their families improve our care, we created the Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC). This council is an opportunity for patients and their families to team up with doctors, nurses and staff to make the care we give even better.

What We Do

  • Listen to patients' and families' viewpoints, experiences and needs
  • Build partnerships between patients and their families and health care providers
  • Take action to improve patients' and families' health care experiences
  • Ensure patients receive the best and safest care possible

Goals and Intentions

  • Identify patient and family needs and concerns
  • Provide feedback on current and proposed policies and procedures, and systems
  • Generate new ideas to improve care delivery and processes
  • Act as catalysts and advocates to integrate patient-centered care across the institution
