Dietetic Internship
Dietetic Internship Curriculum Tracks
To satisfy the Commission on Dietetic Registration's eligibility requirement that test takers have a minimum of a Master's degree to take the RD credentialing exam, we offer the four following program tracks.
Track 1
Dietetic Internship (DI) Alone
Students who have already completed a master's degree are eligible to apply to the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) DI-alone pathway through the DICAS website. Interns in this track will begin their rotations with a fall start date.
Track 2
Combined Master of Science and Dietetic Internship in Collaboration With Rutgers University School of Health Professions
This track is for bachelor's trained students interested in obtaining an online Master of Science in clinical nutrition from Rutgers University while completing the UMMC DI. Accepted interns must finish all of the Rutgers curriculum except for the Clerkships/Supervised Experiential Learning (SEL). The supervised practice experience will be completed via the UMMC DI. The Rutgers SHP MS program is online with virtual synchronous classes and up to three, three-day workshops on the Rutgers SHP Newark campus.
Students will complete separate applications to the UMMC DI and Rutgers University. If accepted to UMMC DI, students will be automatically accepted into Rutgers' MS in Clinical Nutrition program.
Students will begin their MS with Rutgers School of Health Professions approximately six months before starting their dietetic internship. They will complete both programs concurrently during their dietetic internship and graduate from both programs approximately one month apart.
