Two Dietic Interns in the Kitchen

The UMMC Dietetic Internship does not meet the US Department of Education requirements for student financial aid. Scholarships are available through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, as well as state and local associations and certain member interest groups.

Program Schedule

The UMMC Dietetic Internship is a full-time internship. Orientation is the last week in August. The internship is 34 weeks in length with 3 weeks of vacation (37 weeks total). Graduation occurs in mid to late May. Interns usually work 40-hour weeks, however hours vary by rotation.

Graduation Requirements

Interns must complete a minimum of 1000 supervised practice hours according to the 2022  ACEND standards for dietetic internships. Interns are responsible for recording their daily hours through an electronic time sheet. Interns must complete all rotation assignments and supervised practice experiences designed to meet the 2022 ACEND competencies for Registered Dietitian-Nutritionists (CRDNs) with a score of competent or higher on the relevant evaluation. Projects include a blog post, evidenced-based case study presentation, QA/PI project, two reflection papers, and an end-of-year presentation. These must be completed on time with a score of 3 or greater on a 5 point scale to achieve competency.

Note: No credit will be awarded by the UMMC dietetic internship for prior learning experiences, such as coursework or previously completed supervised practice hours.
