The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine accepts applications for the Interventional Pulmonology fellowship during the summer of the year prior to matriculation. There is one position available for this 12-month training program.

Fellowship appointments are administered under the National Resident Matching Program. Our NRMP Program Code is 1252P49S0.

Salary and Benefits

Fellowship salary is determined by PGY status. A reasonable cost of living increase can be expected for subsequent years.

International Graduates

University of Maryland Medical Center does sponsor J-1 visas; other visas are not sponsored for fellowship training.

Prerequisites

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents or have a J-1 visa and have successfully completed an ACGME-accredited two-year fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine or three-year fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine prior to starting our fellowship.

Application Process

Applicants must apply through the Interventional Pulmonary Fellowship Application System. Applications are accepted beginning July 1 of the year that the applicant is applying (i.e., 12 months prior to anticipated start of fellowship training).

The following materials must be submitted:

  • Application
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Personal statement
  • Procedure log
  • USMLE or COMLEX transcript and results
  • Portrait picture
  • If applicable, a copy of your ECFMG certificate and visa

Interview invitations are sent via email and are conducted during the fall.

In alignment with APCCMPD and AAIM, our fellowship interviews will be conducted exclusively virtually.

Visiting Rotation

For those who would like to acquaint yourselves with our program prior to applying, we encourage you to consider a visiting rotation at the University of Maryland. It will also give you an idea of what living in Baltimore is like. We will try to accommodate your request.

Please be aware that participating in a rotation here does not guarantee an invitation to interview or acceptance into the fellowship.
