Clinical Neurophysiology EMG/Neuromuscular Track Fellowship

The University of Maryland in Baltimore offers a one-year, ACGME-approved clinical neurophysiology fellowship for up to three fellows starting in July. Fellows are trained in clinical neuromuscular disorders, performing EMG and single-fiber EMG, EEG, evoked potentials, autonomic electrophysiology, neuromuscular ultrasound, and evaluation of nerve and muscle biopsies.

Fellows rotate through the following practices: Maryland Peripheral Neuropathy, ALS Center of Excellence, Myasthenia Gravis, EEG and Pediatric Neurology.

At the start of the fellowship, fellows undergo two months of intensive training in general neurophysiology, followed by neurophysiology lectures or journal club, and EEG conferences or neuropathology conferences two to three times per week throughout the year. Fellows can choose from a wide range of electives depending on the individual fellow's requirements and are required to complete self-assessment exams in EMG and EEG.

Requirements: Medical Degree and anticipated completion of a U.S. neurology residency.

By the end of the training year, fellows will meet the requirements of the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and the subspecialty board of Neurology with Added Qualification in Clinical Neurophysiology. Additional years of clinical or basic research training may be available depending on the candidate.
