Tracks

The UM Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship program has several available tracks.

Research Track

  • Dedicated 18 months of research time
  • Basic science, translational, or clinical research

Education Track

  • Available during second year of fellowship
  • Includes teaching, curriculum development and qualitative research
  • Training prepares you for:

Specialty Focus

  • Available during third year of fellowship
  • Dedicated four months of training within one specialized area
  • Available specialties:

Rotation Curriculum

The table represents the rotation curriculum for our Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship, consisting of 13 four-week blocks per year, including one block designated for vacation.

The rotations in the third year are customized to align with each fellow's specific interests.

In addition to bedside faculty teaching, our division hosts comprehensive didactic conferences.

Weekly conferences include:

Monday – Pulmonary Education (protected afternoons)

  • DC-5* pulmonary core curriculum
  • Division of PCCSM grand rounds
  • Clinical conundrum case conference
  • Ambulatory pulmonary curriculum

Tuesday – Critical Care Education

  • DC-5* critical care core curriculum

Friday – Critical Care Education

  • Multidisciplinary critical care curriculum (journal club, grand rounds and DEI)
  • Lectures are posted online on the Maryland CC Project website.

* DC-5 represents a collaborative effort among multiple institutions in the region, offering fellows a comprehensive curriculum over a two-year cycle covering essential board topics. Core conferences, facilitated through this collaboration, tap into regional partnerships to provide fellows access to esteemed educators, enhancing educational opportunities.
