University of Maryland Surgical Society

“The purpose of the University of Maryland Surgical Society is the stimulation of interest in the Surgical Department of the University of Maryland School of Medicine by dissemination of scientific knowledge, by keeping the members abreast of the general progress of the University of Maryland and by encouraging closer fellowship of its trainees and interested fellow surgeons” Bylaws, Article II, 1975

Founded in 1970, the University of Maryland Surgical Society promotes the academic excellence and growth of the research, educational and clinical programs of the Department of Surgery. It encourages networking among surgical alumni, past and current resident trainees and faculty members. It is a forum to preserve and honor the important history of the Department while focusing on the mission of surgical innovation and excellence.

Surgical Society officers serve two year terms. Society membership is open to all surgeons who are graduates of University of Maryland School of Medicine, University of Maryland General Surgery Residency and surgical fellowships, and University of Maryland surgical faculty.

All members of the Maryland Surgical Society are invited to attend the Dr. Joseph B. Ganey Alumni Lecture and Reunion in September, the Maryland Reception during the American College of Surgeons meeting, and the Dr. Robert W. Buxton Symposium and Resident Graduation dinner in June of each year, courtesy of the Department of Surgery and Surgical Society.

No dues are required. Voluntary donations may be solicited on behalf of the University of Maryland Baltimore Foundation/School of Medicine to be used to advance the mission of the Society. A newsletter to share residency, department and alumni updates is sent annually.
