How to Apply
Applications to the Internal Medicine/Pediatrics residency at the University of Maryland are only accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Our program offers four positions each year through the National Residency Matching Program.
Inquiries can be sent via e-mail to our program coordinator, Taryn Webb, at UmdMedPeds@som.umaryland.edu or by calling 410-328-7188.
The following materials should be submitted through ERAS no later than November 1:
- ERAS application
- Personal statement
- Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) or "Dean's Letter"
- Three or four letters of recommendations, preferably at least one from a Department of Medicine faculty member and one from a Department of Pediatrics faculty member. We do not require any letters from department chairs. We look forward to reading letters from faculty who know you best.
- Medical school transcript
- USMLE Step 1
- USMLE Step 2, when available
- Photograph
- Your e-mail address
If you are an Osteopathic Medical Student, we require USMLE Step 1 scores to be considered for an interview. USMLE Step 2 scores should be submitted if available. COMLEX alone does not meet this requirement.
If you are an International Medical Graduate, please review the requirements listed on the Application Process for the Internal Medicine Residency.
Interviews
Upon reviewing the above materials, you will receive an e-mail informing you if an interview has been granted. In accordance with the MPPDA Executive Committee guidance, our Med-Peds program will release all of our initial interview offers on October 14, 2024. We do not make more interview offers than available interviews. After October 14, available interview slots are filled from our waitlist on a rolling basis.
We conduct eight virtual interviews on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting in late October and concluding in mid-December.
Our interview day is comprised of faculty and program director interviews, time with our residents and provides an in-depth look at our program. We also highly encourage applicants to attend an event with the Med-Peds residents the night before the interview day.
Correspondence and scheduling of interviews are handled through Thalamus.
After applying to our program, please check your e-mail frequently. Invitations, confirmation of your interview and other correspondence will be sent ONLY via e-mail.
