  • Favorite part about being a resident at Maryland? The people!! From the office staff to the residents and attendings, I really appreciate how welcoming everyone is. Also, the program has multiple clinical sites and early surgical exposure that helps in training well-rounded ophthalmologists.

  • Favorite part about being a resident at Maryland? My favorite part about this residency program is that my class was integrated into the ophthalmology program within the first week of intern year and because of that, even as a PGY-1, I feel comfortable calling on any of my co-residents and seniors for help at work and can also easily hang out with them outside of work.

  • What do you like about Baltimore? One of my favorite things about Baltimore is the diverse food scene in the city. Ranging from Italian to Ethiopian/Korean blend.
  • Favorite part about being a resident at Maryland? The mentorship at Maryland is phenomenal! From the excellent attendings who go out of their way to explain complex concepts, to the senior residents who do not hesitate to help you shine, to the incredible colleagues that make residency something to look forward to.

  • What do you like about Baltimore? I love Ekiben, the Aquarium, the Ravens and the neighborhood communities.
  • Favorite part about being a resident at Maryland? The patient, challenging, excellent and engaging natural teaching styles of each of the faculty, in addition to the comradery between residents. Also, the poke bowls in the cafeteria.

Benjamin Allen, MD

  • What do you like about Baltimore? I love the downtown area and attending Orioles and Ravens games, crabs and other seafood, the Inner Harbor area, the culture and its proximity to other major cities along the east coast.
  • Favorite thing about being a resident at Maryland? Everyone really is so approachable, kind and intelligent. I feel very privileged to be able to train here. I feel at home, and I also get to work with and train with the best of the best on a daily basis.

Jordan George, MD

  • What do you like about Baltimore?: The friendliness of the people and the new foods I’m experiencing. Exploring the city and being able to walk near the waterfront has also been fun and peaceful!
  • Favorite part about being a resident at Maryland?: The sense of community I have felt thus far among my fellow residents. There is a sense that we are all in this together, and the willingness to help each other in big ways and small has made me feel supported during the initial transition to residency.

  • What do you like about Baltimore?: I love visiting different neighborhoods, views of the harbor and getting food in Fells Point. It's also a short train ride to other major cities!

  • What do you like about Baltimore?: Every neighborhood has a lot of character, and there is always some community event going on every weekend. It's also very close to DC and a weekend trip from NYC, so there is always lots to do.

  • Favorite part about being a resident at Maryland?: The people I work with. The faculty are supportive and invested in my learning. Moreover, the camaraderie between co-residents make even the toughest days manageable.
