Amal Isaiah, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Otorhinolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at University of Maryland Children's Hospital, discusses the pioneering procedures performed on an infant born with a rare saccular cyst penetrating the voice box, an incidence that is one or two cases per 100,000 births.
Dr. Isaiah walks through the necessary steps to remove the cyst and explains how to perform a successful tracheotomy and laryngeal tracheal reconstruction on an infant. A year later, the child is able to breathe, speak and eat due to Dr. Isaiah's techniques.
