Hematology Disorders of Newborns

Neonatal hematology is a common and complex subspecialty of pediatric hematology. Teresa York, MD, assistant professor of pediatrics at University of Maryland School of Medicine, presents specific hematologic disorders that commonly present in the newborn period, including common diagnostic questions on how to recognize erythrocyte disorders, platelet disorders, leukocyte disorders, thrombosis and bleeding disorders.

Dr. York reviews the development of hematopoiesis and the immune system and examines the normal pathophysiology of hematopoiesis in the newborn period and reviews current clinical practices from the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital.
